“City in Ruins” is the third novel in Winslow’s Danny Ryan trilogy and, he says, his last book. He’s retiring in part to invest more time into political activism.
He was prolific and acclaimed, producing novels, journalism, essays, criticism, screenplays and, in a memoir, an account of his path from faith to atheism and back again.
He wanted to put a face on the source of cells that led to striking medical advances, and through him a best seller and a movie did just that, telling the tale of Henrietta Lacks.
